Review: Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

After two months plus, I am back with a brand new book review. This time, I will be blogging on Maybe Someday by CoHo. I got this from my bestfriend, Summer, as my 21st birthday gift. The first thing I asked her: GOOD ENDING OR NOT?

That's the thing. I don't like reading romance with bad ending. I feel like, if it is a love story, it has to end well. Perhaps, it's my fairytale-kind of thinking keeps me insisting on this.

First of all, there are only a few characters in this book: Sydney, Ridge, Warren, Maggie, Bridgett, Hunter and Tori. That's it. Most of the story revolves around Sydney and Ridge.

Despite the number of characters, I don't find the story boring at all. It's actually an addictive-easy read. CoHo made it seem effortless. The story was smooth. It makes me want to keep reading it.

On a side note, Sydney and Ridge are cute names. I like them. They aren't mainstream names like Christian or Nicholas or Anna.

Secondly, it's a story coupled with song lyrics! Not that I am a fan of it but I sure do enjoy reading the lyrics.

To be honest, I am having a love-hate relationship with this book. Why do love stories like this even begin in the first place? :( Why must everything start from someone intruding a relationship? :(

As much as I wanted Sydney and Ridge to be together, it is so goddamn unfair for Maggie because imagine, if you're Maggie and your partner is doing shit behind your back with some hotter chic/dude. It's just wrong. :( No matter how long they wait for each other, it's still wrong.

But it's so ROMANTIC. The things they shared between Syd and Ridge are so venomously romantic and hopelessly right. I'm so torn between agreeing and disagreeing the relationship they share.

I wanted Sydney to stop flirting or writing songs with Ridge but oh well, if she refrains herself from spending time with Ridge, all of this won't be happening.

Even though Sydney is ruining the relationship, I can't help but liking her. I feel like she deserves Ridge more than anyone in the world.

I enjoy reading the book but not the ending. I literally flipped through from the part where Ridge went to Sydney's place until Ridge's performance. I mean, I understand Ridge's loyalty to Maggie, Ridge and Sydney's feelings towards each other and the ambivalences but I think it's a bit draggy and long-winded because these elements are repetitively mentioned in every page or once in a few paragraphs.

Another thing that I did not enjoy is the love-making part. It's so draggy I can't even.

I realize that Coho did try too hard to find ways or excuses to let Ridge and Syd to get together by coming up with scenes like Maggie will be better off without Ridge and setting a period of time for R&S to stay away from each other.

I really thought that I would rate very highly for this book when I began reading it. Unfortunately, I don't think so now. I got very sick of the love triangle and I can't not be bothered by it because I can't get over the fact of how wrong it is. Maybe because I experienced the same shit before and that's why I am prejudiced towards this relationship between Syd and Ridge. In fact, I think Coho has beautified the whole perspective of a relationship intruder.

Personally, I would recommend this book if you really like contemporary romance. Or else, just leave it.

Nevertheless, I'm giving it a three out of five.
